Our bestselling mantis species has to be the Giant Asian. That’s why we’ve engineered this quality kit to offer your new pet a home they’ll love. This setup comes with a giant Asian mantis nymph, along with everything else to care for it.

Opt in or out of either ExoTerra’s 20x20x30cm Nano Terrarium, or CreatureCare’s 20x30x30cm Acrylic Habitat. We’ve selected both an acrylic and glass housing option, as the material used is almost entirely down to personal preference, with acrylic being a little more affordable. The enclosure dimensions selected are perfect for the Giant Asian at 30cm tall, with this species growing to around 7-9cm long. Heard of the “3x Rule”? In order to safely moult, mantis must have 3x their body length in enclosure height, making these 30cm habitats ideal. If you’ve got your own enclosure prepared, you can simply opt out. There’s just a little extra room for a small layer of CreatureCare’s moisture-retaining mantis bedding to keep humidity up. Provide extra humidity along with a daily drink by misting the enclosure walls and decor with ProRep’s Misting Bottle.

CreatureCare’s Coco-Mat Terrarium backing allows your mantis nymph to navigate its enclosure with ease, where glass is often difficult for some nymphs to grip, especially for older mantids that all eventually struggle with age-related difficulties in their legs. It also adds a natural feel to their environment. To increase surface area for exploration and to give your pet something to hang from, we’ve selected a bundle of sticks along with a twisted vine. Terrascaping bark chunks and the mini leaf bundle can be decoratively placed to make the ground a little more aesthetically interesting as you’d experience in the wild. They’re also excellent food for the included springtails and mixed isopods, which munch away at any waste and leftover live food, keeping your pet’s habitat clean while helping to prevent harmful moulds from growing. This style of setup that employs detritivorous organisms alongside plants is known as ‘bioactive’, and it’s a recommended way to provide the highest level of care for many species.

Plants gently release moisture into the air as part of transpiration. This raises your enclosure humidity, ensuring your mantis can safely moult. But, we’ve opted for the two included live-plants because they improve the aesthetics of the setup, and make your mantis feel at home in the wild. The mini-moss plant is our favourite, and can be rehydrated and planted in the soil. Each of these plants are exceptionally hardy, but will benefit from a small amount of water once every week or two.
