Substrate Toppers

Substrate topper forms a top layer of ingredients in your terrarium set up which are more than just decoration. They supply food to many invertebrates including isopods, millipedes and beetle grubs. They are designed to mimic forest floor where typically a layer of leaf litter and-or rotting wood are generally found on top of a layer of soil where they may remain dryer than the underlying soil but help keep moisture in the soil below. This allows animals such as isopods to regulate their desired humidity levels by moving between the substrate and dryer top layer. The substrate toppers can also be mixed with your chosen substrate if this is preferred.
