Land Crabs

Browse our wide selection of pet land crabs for sale. Land crabs come in a stunning variety of shapes, sizes, and colors. Ready to buy land crabs? We stock anything from vampire crabs in a variety of species and colours, to hermit crabs with beautifully decorated shells, exotic banana crabs, and many, many more, there’s a land crab for everyone.

Which land crab species should I choose?

Our favourite land crab species are the vampire crabs, as they’re very easy to care for and can be handled without risk of being pinched. They come in many different colours, and can all be kept together, allowing you to mix and match your favourite crab colourations. We aim to stock easy-care species that are ideal for beginners, all of which are marked “easy-care” accordingly, so you can easily select the right pet crab for you.

What do land crabs eat? What should I feed my crabs?

Land crabs are typically omnivores and detrivores, meaning they’ll try almost anything they can get their hands on. While nutritional requirements vary by species, you should aim to feed your crabs a varied diet of greens and proteins. Packaged crab foods are an easy and efficient way to feed your pets, but work best alongside natural foods. Protein sources include dried shrimps and insects.

Is it safe to buy land crabs online? How does this work?

Yes, it’s safe to buy land crabs from us. We ship exclusively within the UK via ‘Royal Mail Next-Day Before 1pm Guaranteed’ service, ensuring your crabs spend only minimal time in transit. We’ll send out a shipping confirmation email when they’re on the way. If there are any issues and your animals arrive ill or deceased, we offer refunds for injuries and illnesses within a 7 day window after arrival.*

My pet crab just arrived, what's next?

The wait is over! It’s time to unbox your new crab from its temporary transit container and get it into its home. Ensure you’ve prepared your pet’s setup ahead of time – you’ll want to get it settled in as soon as possible. Unbox your pet in an open space, ensuring it can’t dart away anywhere. Then, use a soft brush to coax the animal into its new setup. Pop in a little bit of food (they’ll only eat a small amount) and leave your crab to settle in and destress.

How do I care for land crabs? Are they easy to care for?

Generally, land crabs are considered very easy pets to care for, although it does depend on species. If you’re wanting a more affordable choice, we recommend smaller species such as the vampire crab. Hermit crabs require more space and an interactive environment to stay happy. Land crabs thrive in a part water part land setup, called a paludarium. Moisture retaining substrates such as coco coir, sometimes mixed with sand is recommended. You can set up a full semi-aquatic paludarium, or add a small bathing area for your pet crabs in a standard terrarium using a deep dish or plastic pool. They’ll need hiding places along with regular water changes to keep them happy and healthy.

Do crabs make good pets?

Surprisingly, yes. These critters might not be at the top of your list of exciting pet invertebrates, but they definitely rank on ours. Our favourites are the vampire crab, as they’re stunningly beautiful and very easy to care for. They can be handled, and have quirky, flighty personalities. Hermit crabs are also brilliant pets, being very intelligent, even so much as to use hamster wheels and toys in their enclosures. Land crabs are definitely worth giving a shot.

Can land crabs be kept together?

This depends on the species, as some crabs are highly social, and others are territorial. Ensure you’ve done your research into the species you want to keep. Social crabs include vampire crabs and hermit crabs, which should be kept in groups of three or more. Many of the larger species are territorial, and are better housed alone.
