If you’re looking for a large, easy-care species of adult tarantula for sale, we recommend the curly hair, chilean rose and Brazilian black. These are hardy choices that grow impressively large upon reaching adulthood. If you’re after looks in your mature tarantula, species like the Mexican red knee, or members of the genus Brachypelma are all incredibly attractive species, and very simple to care for.
Tarantulas are carnivorous, with different species reaching different sizes as adulthood which can make selecting the appropriate live food a little difficult. For most large species, locusts and dubia roaches are excellent choices as they come in a range of sizes, making them perfect for feeding to all sorts of adult spiders. For the extra large species, such as goliath bird eaters, hissing cockroaches are preferred for their larger size.

The wait is over! It’s time to unbox your new ‘T’ from its temporary transit containers and get it into its home. Ensure you’ve prepared your pet’s setup ahead of time – you’ll want to get it settled in as soon as possible. Unbox your pet in a clear, open space, ensuring it can’t dart away anywhere. Then, use a soft brush to coax the animal into its new setup. You might feel more comfortable wearing thick gloves, especially for highly venomous species. Gently mist the enclosure walls with water to allow them a drink, and leave them to settle in.
Sub-adult / adult tarantulas are the best of all the age groups to care for. They’ve survived the spiderling stage, and are at their biggest and most beautiful. They’ll need a larger terrarium (tall for arboreal species, wide and deep for terrestrial species) than their younger counterparts, with deeper substrate for terrestrial / fossorial species along with plenty of hiding places and a water dish. Keep the water dish full, and feed your mature tarantula with large live food, ensuring the spider catches and eats it. Ensure their substrate is kept as moist as necessary for their species.
Adult tarantulas are considered the best age group to keep as a pet. They are hardier than their younger counterparts, and usually more slow-moving and docile. Their beautiful colourations are most visible at this age, where spiderlings and juveniles tend to be more camouflaged.
In most cases, no. However, there are several species that can be kept communally when plenty of precautions are taken. Mature males and mature females cannot be kept together, breeding tarantulas is typically a short process with plenty of supervision to prevent cannibalisation.
