If you’re looking for a tailless whip scorpion, (amblypygid) we recommend the western tailless whip scorpion, Damon medius. If you’re looking for a whip scorpion, or vinegaroon, (uropygid) we recommend the giant vinegaroon, Mastigoproctus giganteus. Both of these are large, hardy species great for anyone new to these fascinating critters. Vinegaroons are typically easier to care for, as they accept food more readily than tailless whip scorpions.
Whip scorpions are carnivores, whether amblypigid, or uropygi. We recommend crickets and locusts for both types of animal.

The wait is over! It’s time to unbox your new pet from its temporary transit container and get it into its home. Ensure you’ve prepared your pet’s setup ahead of time – you’ll want to get it settled in as soon as possible. Unbox your pet in an open space, ensuring it can’t dart away anywhere. Then, use a soft brush to coax the animal into its new setup. After your pet has settled in to its new home, you can add in a little live food, gently mist the enclosure’s walls, and leave your pet de-stress and eat.
Whip scorpions are considered simple pets to care for. They will need a spacious enclosure, glass terrariums work best, so they can roam and explore at night. Add a moisture-retaining substrate such as coco-coir to boost humidity levels in the enclosure and, in the case of vinegaroons, so they can burrow. For vinegaroons, a shallow water dish works best, tailless whip scorpions will benefit from regular misting of their enclosure. Ensure the enclosure has plenty of hiding spaces, as both animals will want to huddle somewhere safe during the day. Offer your pet live food around once or twice a week, depending on their appetite.
Whip scorpions are unique pets, and can be handled with little risk to their owners (besides acidic sprays or pinches). This makes them arguably better pets than regular scorpions or tarantulas. They’re equally low-maintenance, and are active at night, so you can watch them explore and hunt.
