Isopods colonies are typically started with around 5-15 individuals, depending on the species chosen. And, with so many varieties of isopods for sale, you’re sure to find some you’ll love.

Which isopod species should I buy?

If you’re a beginner keeper, members of the genus Porcellio, like the dairy cow isopod and lava isopods are all brilliant, easy-care choices known for being prolific breeders that quickly establish large colonies.

What do Isopods eat? What should I feed mine?

Isopods are omnivores and detrivores, meaning they eat almost anything. With that said, they have certain dietary needs that must be met to keep them thriving, namely protein and calcium. You should feed your ‘pods dried leaves and wood, fresh veggies, and a source of calcium such as cuttlebone, oyster shell, or egg shell. Protein sources include fish food, dried shrimp and dried insects. They’ll need fresh veggies such as peas and leafy greens to truly thrive.

Is it safe to buy isopods online? How does this work?

Yes, it’s safe to buy exotic isopods from us. We ship exclusively within the UK via ‘Royal Mail Next-Day Before 1pm Guaranteed’ service, ensuring your ‘pods spend only minimal time in transit. We’ll send out a shipping confirmation email when they’re on the way. How do I care for isopods? Are they easy to care for?

While some exotic isopods require more specialised care, the vast majority of pet ‘pods are super easy to care for and are great for children. They’ll need an enclosure or repurposed container as housing, with a deep, moisture-retaining substrate like coco-coir or potting compost. Add in hiding places, moss, live plants. Regularly mist your isopods to ensure their enclosure stays nice and humid according to the needs of your species, and feed a source of calcium, protein, fresh veggies, and decaying organic matter.
