Description

Size/Age:

The Guatemalan tiger rump tarantula, scientifically known as Davus Pentaloris, is a species of tarantula native to the tropical rainforests of Guatemala and Belize in Central America. It is commonly referred to as the "Guatemalan tiger rump" or the "Costa Rican tiger rump" tarantula. The tiger rump tarantula is a medium-sized species, with adult females reaching a body length of about 5 to 6 inches (12 to 15 centimeters), including their legs. Males are generally smaller, measuring around 4 to 4.5 inches (10 to 11 centimeters). It has a stocky body covered in short, dense hairs that give it a velvety appearance. The coloration is striking, characterized by a dark brown or black overall body color with distinct orange or reddish bands on the joints of its legs, giving it its "tiger rump" name. These tarantulas are primarily ground-dwelling and can be found in the leaf litter or burrows in the rainforest floor. They are nocturnal creatures, being most active during the night. The Guatemalan tiger rump tarantula is generally considered docile and is not known for aggressive behavior. However, like all tarantulas, they possess venom and may bite if they feel threatened. The Guatemalan tiger rump tarantula is generally considered easy to care for compared to some other tarantula species. They are hardy and adaptable, making them suitable for beginner tarantula keepers. They have relatively straightforward care requirements, and as long as their basic needs for food, water, temperature, and humidity are met, they tend to thrive. These spiders are not as sensitive to specific environmental conditions as some other tarantulas, and they can tolerate a range of temperatures and humidity levels within reasonable limits. Tiger rump tarantulas have a generally docile temperament, which means they are less likely to exhibit aggressive behavior or bite when handled or disturbed. Overall, the Guatemalan tiger rump tarantula is considered a relatively low-maintenance tarantula species, making them a popular choice among tarantula enthusiasts, including beginners.
