Spiderling Cobalt Blue Tarantula, Cyriopagopus Lividus

Cobalt Blue Tarantula spiderlings, formally known as Haplopelma lividum, grow into stunning, metallic blue spiders, but, as slings, are fluffy and chocolate-brown. Originating from the humid tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia, notably in countries like Myanmar and Thailand, these spiderlings slowly mature to display evergrowing shades and intensity of their blue hues. These spiderlings inherit the highly defensive and somewhat aggressive nature of their adult counterparts. Because of this, cobalt blue slings are not recommended for casual handling; they’re more for observing than interacting with. While they’re small now, mature females can grow up to a 6-inch leg span and have a considerable lifespan of 10 to 15 years, while males usually live for about 3 to 6 years. Being fossorial creatures, they prefer burrowing deep into the substrate, especially at this young age when they’re more vulnerable. Therefore, an enclosure that allows plenty of burrowing is best for these little critters. Their native habitat is very humid, a humidity level of 70-80% should be maintained in their enclosure. Regular misting and a water dish can help achieve this. To keep them comfortable, aim for a temperature range of 75-85°F (24-29°C), using heat mats if necessary. Because they’re an old-world species, they have strong venom that packs a punch, even at this young age. Due to these factors—strong venom, and aggressive temperament, these spiderlings are best suited for those who already have some experience in tarantula care, and should not be handled.
