Description

Size/Age:

Leiurus quinquestriatus, commonly known as the deathstalker scorpion, is more than your average pet, being one of the most venomous scorpions in the world and capable of killing humans. It belongs to the Buthidae family, which is known for including many medically significant scorpion species. The deathstalker scorpion is native to North Africa and the Middle East, primarily found in desert regions. Deathstalker scorpions are typically found in arid and desert regions, such as the Sahara Desert and other parts of North Africa, as well as the Arabian Peninsula. They are adapted to survive in extreme temperatures and low humidity levels, often burrowing into sand or seeking shelter in rock crevices during the day to avoid excessive heat. The deathstalker scorpion is relatively small compared to some other scorpion species, with an average length of about 3 to 4 inches (7 to 10 centimeters).  For obvious reasons, Leiurus quinquestriatus is not recommended for beginner keepers, and should be kept only by experienced scorpion owners. Handling deathstalker scorpions should be approached with extreme caution due to their venomous sting. It is generally recommended to avoid direct handling and observe them from a safe distance. If handling becomes necessary, it should be done only by experienced individuals using appropriate tools or techniques to minimize the risk of being stung. Leiurus Quinquestriatus is not a difficult animal to care for, requiring a large enclosure with a deep, sand-based substrate, decor such as cork-bark, plants, and a water dish for hydration. Deathstalkers prefer low humidity levels similar to their natural arid habitat. Aim for a humidity level of around 40%. Maintain a temperature gradient within the enclosure. Provide a warm side with a temperature of around 80-90°F (27-32°C) during the day and a cooler side with temperatures around 70-75°F (21-24°C). Overall, this fascinating species is recommended only for experienced exotic invertebrate keepers.
